This is my very post blog post on my site, so please bare with me as I find my voice in this space. As always I am open to suggestions and feedback. I am extremely excited about this year and all it has to offer, much like last year did, but as always a new year is a fresh start.
I'm entering my third year of my business (how did that happen?) and it feels like an exciting time to elevate my brand, make some necessary changes to my market plans and refine my product. I am not certain of what order that all needs to happen, but I chose to work on my products first since that's the most fun.
I've decided to eliminate products that have not been selling well and work on the ones that have been but take them to a new improved level. I want to focus solely on my bags, earrings, maybe even some necklaces and few seasonal home accessories items -at-least that's the plan for now. I've spent the past few weeks experimenting with new fibers on and refining existing styles. I think I even landed on a solution for the lining, stay tuned.
So while I've been focusing on products, I've also been doing quite a bit of research on ordering my supplies, looking at trends, refining my packaging and of course dealing with my taxes. These are all manageable areas to me.
What is not manageable it working on marketing. I need to sit down and work on my website, create postcards focus on areas that effect sales, but I haven't been able to. No, no one is keeping my hands tied, it's just not my favorite thing to do for my business. I know it's just as important to know how to handle the tech side of your business, but if you work for yourself, you know you wear a million hats, and that's one I prefer not wear.
Oh, and also, I am planning to do less shows but bigger ones that focus on handmade makers. My approach last year left me exhausted, scrambling to crank out products and not putting myself in front of the right audience. Stay tuned as I work my way through the beginning of year, planning, creating, and connecting with my community.
